Drive traffic, raise awareness and build links
If your digital marketing activity includes online advertising, it is crucial to ensure that you create proposition-led online advertising and engage with the websites your customers are using. If your digital marketing does not currently include online advertising there are a number of reasons why it may now be beneficial for your business.
Online advertising has progressed from simply putting a banner ad on a related website and paying for a set number of clicks or impressions (views). With the emergence of social network sites the idea of ‘targeted display advertising’ has been born. This allows you to target site users based on a range of demographics such as age, gender, location and interests. This also acts as a valuable link back to your website for search engine optimisation purposes.
FWD Digital can help you understand:
- where your customers are active online – be this traditional “trade” sites or more socially focused sites such as Linkedin and Facebook
- pricing and how to get the best rates from the sites you are talking to
- how to develop your advertising creative – be they banners, buttons, MPUs or using facilities such as pay per click and Adwords.
Online advertising examples
Google Adwords – this includes the ‘Sponsored listings’ viewed at the top and right hand side of a Google search page. This form of online advertising is known as Pay-per-click (PPC) as you are charged each time your advert is clicked on. Google Adwords can also be used to place ads on related websites.

Affiliate marketing - this is where a display ad or text link is hosted on a website and a pre-agreed commission is paid to that site owner for each lead or successful sale.

Targeted social media advertising – Sites such as Facebook and LinkedIn offer the opportunity to target specific groups to promote your presence on those sites or to link back to your website.
